Summary

From the DMAC Bylaws :

The Vestry is a team of Covenant Members in the church, chosen to support and assist the Senior Clergy. They are congregational representatives who help ensure that the resources the Lord provides are used in an appropriate and responsible manner that furthers the welfare of the church and its stated mission.

This is expressed primarily in administrating the budget and providing for the Senior Clergy (Rector) and staff.

Essential characteristics

DMAC Covenant Member in good standing, ready to lead as part of a community focused on godly discernment, mature, wise

Expectations

Attend monthly Vestry meetings (usually about 2 hours)

Attend yearly leadership gathering (half-day to one-day)

Read and review Vestry minutes monthly

Respond to occasional email inquiries

Attend occasional (less than 6 per year) ad-hoc in-person or remote meetings

Support Structures

  • Yearly leadership retreat
  • Mutually supportive leadership community operating within the Member Covenant and Vestry Policy.

Required Knowledge,

  • Communications
  • Clear on church’s mission and commitments
  • Able to collaborate well with other leaders

Work Environment

  • Time is usually spent on church grounds
  • Retreat may be off site

Hours & Compensation

  • The Vestry Member is a volunteer, unpaid role
  • Time commitment may vary, but averages 2-5 hours per month

Communications

  • Emails from within the church (clergy, staff, parishioners) pertaining to your ministry should be answered within the week.
